To write a book—to get the story only you can tell out of your head and into the hands of your readers—is an enormous undertaking.
And there’s just nothing in the world like it.
From idea to publication to publicity, we’’ll be there for you, every step of the way. Whether you already have a manuscript drafted or just an idea you’d like to develop, we can help you publish a book to be proud of.
We offer a range of services, including research and collaboration on story development, writing, editing, design, photography, photo research, and illustration. Whatever your book needs, we’ve got it at our fingertips.
With your specific goals and priorities in mind, Five Crow Press will build your custom publishing team to make sure your book is polished, professional, while remaining under your creative control.
And once your book is done, whether or not you publish with us, our marketing and publicity team is ready to help you find, reach, and engage your book’s ideal readers.

Development Stage I transforms your thoughts into action. Together, we’ll crystalize your book idea, analyze your potential market, identify your audience, and explore your marketing possibilities. At the end of Stage I, you'll have a concise overview for your book, an outline of desired content, a preliminary competitive analysis, and a draft of your author bio. (Please note: We have a limited amount of Development Stage I slots available.)

Development Stages II and III take your book from outline to preliminary draft. This will include interviews, research, and development of your story's overall structure. At the end of the Development Stage II you will have a complete first draft of your book, with a head start on the additional materials you'll need for either proposal submission or publishing. Your draft will then enter a preliminary editing stage to take it from draft to final manuscript. This process includes a content evaluation to pinpoint any needed adjustments and an overall review against your outline. At the end of Development Stage III, your manuscript will be ready for the editorial process.

With your final manuscript now complete, your book will enter the editorial process. It will first be read by an editor who hasn’t seen it before to ensure everything is clear and will be understood by your reader. We'll recommend any further context, explanation, or adjustments we feel are needed for clarity. Next, a line edit will assure flow, structure, language, style, and continuity, and then a copyedit will further polish your book’s grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting. We’ll also do a last proofread of the entire manuscript before it enters the production process.

After you approve your edited manuscript, it will be ready for the production process, which involves design, layout, and publishing of your book. Our award-winning design team will lay out the book’s interior pages and design the cover. You'll get to review your book one more time in its pre-press form before final proofreading. Then, with your approval, we’ll handle all the final production details, including ISBN and metadata, before sending it to the printer.

Whatever your goals and priorities are—whether you choose for us to complete your book project as a proposal or see it through to publication—we'll stay right with you to create a marketing plan, a media kit, and web and social media strategies. We’ll help you prepare for your book's launch and ongoing promotions with a variety of options to meet your needs and budget.
